12 Questions for Love: A Guide to Intimate Conversations & Deeper Relationships

Foreword by Sonya Renee Taylor, New York Times bestselling author of The Body Is Not An Apology.

Most of us were never taught how to have the conversations that actually change a relationship. This book does.

Built from over 1,300 real conversations filmed for The Skin Deep's Emmy Award-winning series {THE AND}, 12 Questions for Love gives you the exact questions that crack relationships open, the ones that create genuine intimacy, dissolve distance, and remind you why this person matters.

Author and creator Topaz Adizes spent years watching what happens when people finally ask the questions they've been avoiding. What he found: the right question, asked with courage, can transform a relationship forever. These 12 questions, including "What is the pain in me you wish you could heal?", have been proven to deepen connection across every kind of relationship, regardless of age, gender, or sexuality.

This isn't just a book. It's a practice. One that will make you braver, more present, and more connected than you've felt in years.

Inside you'll find:

  • How to create the conditions where someone feels safe enough to tell you the truth
  • 12 questions proven to unlock deeper intimacy, with real stories from people who've lived it
  • Tools to stay connected through conflict instead of letting it pull you apart
  • How to ask better questions in every relationship in your life, and get answers that actually mean something

The best conversation of your relationship is still ahead of you.

I love this book

I’ve been a long time fan of the {AND} conversation cards. I bought them originally to try to save my marriage, but unfortunately he was not willing to open up and hold space for these deeper conversations. I have since moved on and fell in love again, and it all started with the strangers deck.Throughout the last two years, we’ve played across several decks, and reading this book and the 12 questions, I realized that these were some of our favorite, connecting conversations. This also isn’t a one time conversation or question. You can refer back to this book and ask these at multiple points throughout the year and you might have different answers depending on what season of life you’re in, and I think that’s a beautiful thing.I loved getting to hear the backstory on how everything came together with this project. As an elopement filmmaker, it’s especially inspiring to be seeking that space “in between” in my filming, so I’m excited to not only apply this to my romantic relationships, but with my clients, as well as some of my friends.I’m also reframing how I think about asking questions since they dive into that in this book as well. This year I’m really focusing on deepening my relationships with others, and this book gives some very tangible tools to do so

Connection Creation

When I first saw this book come on my feed. It triggered my soul deep within. We don’t allow ourselves to deeply open and connect. I noticed that my partner and I had created this habit of not really diving deep into conversation and just living day to day. This book allowed me to crack open more and explore different topics of our aspirations and life. We are a work in progress but the supporting chapters of how to ask deeper questions is so insightful.

meaningful and insightful

Deep conversations were always missing from my life. In the rare cases I had ones , it ended quickly because of shame, pain etc... With this book I actually learnt some lessons on how it can change. Thank you for this wonderful book...

Helpful suggestions for intimate conversations

This book offers helpful suggestions for conducting intimate conversations that might have really helped me in some of my previous relationships where I had difficulty communicating openly. At this point in my life, I feel like I have a better grasp on how to cultivate safety and share authentically, but I still got some useful tips from this book. I liked the 12 questions and the additional questions suggested in the back matter, as well as the suggestions on how to ask better questions in general. I also liked the diversity of conversational partners included in the examples, from friends and family members to spouses (both straight and gay).I was a bit frustrated with the introductory material. I enjoy memoirs, but I didn’t pick this up to read about the author’s journey—I just wanted to get to the questions. I’m glad I stuck with it though. I recommend this book for anyone interested in cultivating deeper connections with loved ones.I was provided an unproofed ARC through NetGalley that I volunteered to review.
